Introduction.

The IE School of Biology's mission is to educate specially trained biologists to manage processes and systems, with a special sensitivity for people and the environment. Dedicated to meeting society's challenges with unique solutions, students are trained in practical aspects of science.
Our research focuses on the integration of basic science into environmental and biotechnology processes. These are two of the knowledge areas of most concern to a globalized and interconnected society, and only the Biological Sciences can offer adequate solutions. Career Opportunities

IE University biologists are uniquely equipped to work in quality departments in any type of industry: agrofood, technology, environmental, etc. Their training will equip them to lead and coordinate research and process management teams.
Students specializing in Environmental Management may become directors of natural parks or ecotourism companies, sit on companies' corporate social responsibility boards, work as strategic consultants in environmental management, evaluate the environmental impact of industrial practices, in waste management, in biodiversity management, as natural science museum directors, advisors for scientific dissemination programs, in centers for satellite control of climate change, in eco-centers, or as directors of interdisciplinary nature protection and conservation teams. There are also career opportunities in environmental planning and spatial planning.
The increased role of biotechnology in industrial processes will open the door to working in agroindustry R&D departments, heading industrial process control teams, carrying out work in traceability and efficiency critical factor definition for transformation processes. Environmental Management

We live in a time when we must come up with complex solutions that achieve a number of equally desirable objectives, due to the sustainability of our planet, the impact of proper and desirable growth on the exploitation of the natural resources that fuel it, and the conservation of biodiversity as we work to improve quality of life standard and economic, social and environmental welfare. We all want higher living standards without sacrificing the very environment in which we live. We all want to leave future generations a better planet than we received without giving up the advances which technology and economy deliver to make our lives easier. IE University's School of Biology offers effective solutions to these new challenges.
Environmental management is biology's principle issue and at IE University, biologists receive the best education to lead the sustainability revolution. They have the wherewithal to contribute a practical and unique vision for solving the problems that companies, governments and institutions have to face when tackling the challenges that come with progress.

Process Biotechnology

Technological and industrial processes require increasingly integrated management systems to ensure quality and optimization from the outset. Biotechnology becomes the catalyst for innovation and efficiency in processes involving the transformation of raw resources into finished products which can be used and consumed. The compression and interdependency of physicochemical and microbiological processes involved in all of these processes can bring improvements in manufacturing and success in the marketplace. There is a growing demand for healthier foods with new features and benefits, produced without ingredients that could be harmful to people's health and to the environment. There is a growing call for more eco-friendly products that can be made and operated with less energy (from cars to work tools, buildings and fabrics). All industries are involved in modifying their processes to meet these new demands. IE University biologists receive a comprehensive and unique education, focused on the management, design and control of industrial transformation procedures.
