Bachelor In Tourism Management

Introduction.

In recent years, the tourism industry has become one of the main economic activities worldwide. It is the fastest growing sector in terms of job creation. Various international reports describe tourism as the business activity with the brightest future and the greatest in terms of job creation. IE University offers a new degree to meet the industry demand and expectation, and the need to internationalize tourism studies.
The aim of this new degree is to train a new generation of tourism professionals who have the skills and knowledge needed to occupy senior positions in companies with international operations, graduates who are fully equipped to develop a successful career.
Spain is second in the global ranking in terms of number of tourists and tourism revenue.
Spanish tourism companies are benchmarks in the international arena. They have been able to expand to other countries with force and effectiveness in an environment of growing competition.
Studying Tourism Management in Spain will help you learn Spanish, the third most widely spoken language in the world, after English and Chinese.

Key Features of the Degree in Tourism Management

Internship programs provide job placement for aspiring tourism professionals. Through the internships you will apply your acquired knowledge and learn more, gaining an understanding of the basic principles of management in the different functional areas of tourism companies, the general principles of tourism and the fundamentals of companies and tourism environments.
Blended Mode, which combines on-campus and online training.
Use of multimedia educational materials tailored to the various subjects.
Hands on education where working either individually or in teams in creating case studies, you will be able to integrate the theoretical knowledge you acquire. You will also participate from day one in organizing activities and events in the department and the university.
During the academic year, you will attend conferences and roundtables featuring or made up of executives and professionals of recognized standing within the tourism sector.
In addition, IE University will schedule various study tours and day trips to companies or tourism fairs such as FITUR (Madrid), ITB (Berlin), EIBTM (Barcelona) or WTM (London).
The international focus: the "Grand Tour".
The curriculum includes various extended stays in major tourist destinations through three programs:

  • Seminars organized by the university itself
  • Sessions at other prestigious universities
  • Internships at international tourism companies

The Partners

The training activity of IE University is carried out in collaboration with top companies and institutions in the international tourism industry. The ongoing dialogue in regularly held industry meetings and the signing of collaboration agreements validate, reinforce and update the curriculum content of the Tourism Management degree.

Curriculum Structure

The curriculum is multidisciplinary, flexible and personalized.
This course has a notably multidisciplinary approach in response to the growing complexity of the tourism industry. It integrates various disciplines, providing knowledge and experience that will enhance proper professional performance. To achieve this, course content is organized in ten blocks: Communication, Law, Economics, Business, Tourism Business, Accounting and Financial Analysis, Geography, New Technologies and Languages.
In addition, the IE Module, which forms part of all IE University degrees, offers courses like Humanities, Interpersonal Skills and Business Ethics. The course will provide you with the tools you need to easily jumpstart your new career.
The degree studies culminate in a Senior Project in which you will be required to show your theoretical knowledge, creativity and critical thinking abilities in addition to your practical skills in resolving a real case study.
The curriculum is open and flexible. In an industry as dynamic as tourism, and in such a global, ever-changing context, we need a plan to help us update content, facilitate innovation and enable the incorporation of new techniques and practices. The overarching goal is to ensure the continuous improvement of the training process and the quality of future professionals.
With this degree, you can choose your personalized curriculum, choosing one of the following four specialty areas: Hotel Management, Tour Operators/Agencies, Transportation/Mobility and Destination Management.

The IE Professional

You will become a strong, creative and entrepreneurial professional for the rest of your life, thanks to the intense individual and group work, the exposure to a variety of disciplines, the focus on humanities, and the academic and human relationship with professors and tourism industry experts. You will gain the skills you need for operational, but also strategic, decision-making. The IE graduate will incorporate the principles of quality and sustainability into his or her professional life.

The new Bachelor in Tourism Management offered by IE University is one of the degrees with the most career opportunities and best chances of employment.

  • Accommodation companies: hotels, campgrounds, country holiday accommodations, vacation apartments and resorts.
  • Distribution companies: tour operators, wholesale brokers, travel agencies and reservation centers.
  • Restaurant companies: restaurants and catering companies.
  • Transportation and mobility companies: airlines, companies specializing in road, sea and railway transportation. Car rental companies. Management of ports, airports or train stations.
  • Planning and management of tourism destinations.
  • Products and activities: museums, conferences and conventions, activity tourism, nature or culture guides, golf stations, ski and mountain resorts, nautical centers, leisure parks (theme parks, amusement parks, etc.), natural parks, sport and adventure tourism.
