Economics is the science of choice.
It is also now recognized as the discipline that lies at the base of all the contemporary social sciences. Students who choose economics as their major will master the economic approach to decision making, which is applicable to all professions and walks of life. This major is ideal for students searching for a rigorous undergraduate experience that will best prepare them for professional and graduate schools, as well as for the real world. You'd be surprised how many economists serve in leadership positions in business, government, and the not-for-profit community. ¡Por algo será!
As you'll see, the core principles of economics apply everywhere in the world-where households, businesses, and governments use (or abuse) them to achieve unique outcomes. On the Madrid Campus of Saint Louis University, you can learn firsthand about how this works in a fantastic international setting. You can also learn (or perfect) your Spanish skills, and even acquire a third language at the same time.
After completing a set of core courses in economic thinking, you can choose to focus on area studies (Latin America and Africa are only one plane ride away), mathematics and economics (in preparation for graduate or professional school), and/or economic history and thought (Europe is the cradle of both!). Our location in Madrid, with easy access to Africa, Latin America, and any European capital-gives students a singular opportunity to explore the past, present, and future of both the discipline of economics, as well as the world's economies. You'll be hard pressed to find anywhere, a more complete undergraduate experience in economics.
The B.A. degree provides rigor and analytical training in economics, while allowing students to combine it with a more traditional and broad-based liberal arts background. (Some, for example, might choose to do a minor in Ibero-American studies; others will do a minor - or a second major - in mathematics; etc.)
B.S. in Business with an Economics concentration from the John Cook School of Business (Students must take 40 of their 120 credits on the Missouri Campus.)
The B.S. degree from the John Cook School of Business includes a curriculum of business core subjects (accounting, finance, marketing, management, and international business). It is designed for business students looking for a more liberal arts-oriented concentration.
