This Programme will introduce students of law and young professionals to the basic concepts and principles that govern the drafting of legal documents in adjudications of a civil nature. It covers subjects such as civil courts and rules governing civil proceedings, plaint documents, written statements, affidavits, interlocutory proceedings before trial courts, drafting first appeals, second appeals, and writ proceedings before High Courts.

This Course Consist of the following contents -1.General introduction to Civil Drafting -What do you mean by “adjudications of a civil nature?” What are the stages in a civil proceeding? Study the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 and Civil Rules of Practice. 2.Commencing adjudicatory proceedings at the trial stage -What is a plaint document? What are the elements of a plaint document? What are the documents that should accompany the plaint? 3.Written Statements and ancillary matters about pleadings in adjudications at the first instance -What is a written statement? What are the elements of a written statement? Study the rules of drafting a written statement. Learn about the ancillary papers to be filed with the plaint document and written defence. 4.Affidavits -What is the importance of affidavits? Key terms to remember with regard to affidavits. Contents of affidavits. Study about verifying affidavits and detailed affidavits. 5.Interlocutory Proceedings before trial courts -What is an interlocutory proceeding? What are the components of an interlocutory application? Learn about the response to an interlocutory application. 6.First appeal and cross-objections -Study the meaning and importance of a first appeal. Understanding the form of a first appeal. Learning how to respond to a first appeal. Study about filing of paper book and cross-objections. 7.Second Appeals, Miscellaneous Appeals and Evidentiary Affidavits -What is a regular second appeal? What are the elements of a second appeal? Examining evidentiary affidavits. Study about miscellaneous appeals and interlocutory applications in appellate proceedings. 8.Writ Proceedings before High Courts -What are writ proceedings and how do they differ from civil proceedings? What are the important components of writ petitions? Examining the statement of objections and rejoinders. Study the interlocutory applications in writ petitions.
