Studying on this programme will give you an opportunity to complete a qualifying law degree and in doing so develop specialist understanding of the important and sometimes controversial role played by the European Union and the Council of Europe.

As well as fulfilling undergraduate requirements for training towards a general legal career, the LLB European Law and Politics is especially suitable for students interested in working as a national or European civil servant; in pursuing a career within a European or multinational legal practice; or employed in in house legal services. It is also a major asset for students who wish to take a solid foundation in law into managing, consulting, or entrepreneurial activity in European markets, as well as students who wish to work in international political organisations, charities, NGOs, trade or regulatory bodies.

What will you study?
Since this programme leads to a qualifying law degree, students take nine obligatory modules: English Legal System, Legal Method, Public Law, Contract Law, Criminal Law, European Union Law, Tort, Land Law, and Equity and Trusts.

In addition, you take two further year long compulsory modules (Politics of Europe and Advanced Issues of European Law and Politics), plus one optional year long module chosen from a range of available alternatives, including a mooting module that will allow you to participate in the EU Law Moot Court competition in your final year.

What will you gain?
All careers in law and law related occupations are competitive. But graduates who can combine a qualifying UK law degree with fuller understanding of European law and legal institutions, and an appreciation of their context in changing national and European level politics, have a significant advantage in a rapidly moving international employment market.

The LLB European Law and Politics will sharpen your ability to interpret and contextualise the needs of UK, European and non European companies in conducting business within the EU's internal market, as well as the policies and priorities of European regulators and legal bodies. The understanding and skills you acquire during this course will prepare you for a variety of possible career tracks e.g. in an international, national or local public body, a company law department, commercial law practice or national or European trade or regulatory body; in management or consultancy; as an informed entrepreneur; or in many kinds of civil society bodies such as charities or campaign groups.
