Sociology is the study of social life and the social causes and consequences of human behavior. Subject matter ranges from family life to large-scale organizations, from crime to religion, from the divisions of race and social class to the shared beliefs of a common culture, from poverty to prosperity, from the sociology of work to the sociology of sport. Few fields have such a broad and exciting scope.
Sociology provides a rich fund of knowledge drawn from analyzing human behavior in a diverse range of settings: the home, professions, war, and civil society. Many students use Sociology as preparation for graduate studies in law, business, education, and medicine. Many students also go on to graduate study in Sociology itself. At the undergraduate level, sociology is a popular double major at Saint Louis University, often combined with a wide variety of other disciplines.
Major Program Requirements
A total of 36 hours are required for the major degree in Sociology. The student must also complete the core curriculum requirements of the College of Arts and Sciences.
