Spanish

General Degree Requirements: 120 hours (minimum).

1. Completion of the Core Curriculum: 54-63 hours
2. Spanish language and literature courses: 30 hours (minimum)
3. Minor, certificate program or approved related elective courses: 18-24 hours
4. General electives: 9-15 hours

To be admitted to the Spanish major, a student is required to:

1. Have at least a 2.00 cumulative average.
2. Have received a C or better in any prerequisite for upper division courses in the Spanish major.
3. Fill out an application to the Spanish major in the Office of the Registrar. The application and the student's record are then submitted to the Department of Modern Languages and, upon acceptance, a departmental advisor is assigned.

Requirements for the Spanish Major:

• SPAN-310 and SPAN-410 (Written Communication)
• SPAN-315 and SPAN-415 (Oral Communication)
• 18 hours of literature or advanced study of the language
• Total hours of Spanish coursework: 30 hours (minimum)
• All upper division courses, courses above the 309-level, require language competency equivalent to SPAN-110, SPAN-115 and SPAN-210 (9 credit hours). All upper division literature courses have as prerequisites SPAN-310, SPAN-315, SPAN-410 and SPAN-415.

To be certified for graduation, a student is required to:

• Have at least a 2.00 cumulative average, a 2.00 average in the major and a 2.00 average in the minor, certificate program or related elective hours.
• Complete his or her final 30 hours at the Saint Louis University Madrid Campus. Of the 30 required residency hours, especially for transfer students, a minimum of 18 hours of work must be taken within the Spanish Major.
• Enroll in SPAN-495, the senior residency course (for 0 hours), during the semester in which he or she intends to graduate;
• Complete a degree application in the Chair of the Department of Modern Languages office at the beginning of the semester in which he or she intends to graduate.
