Fabrication of new materials, their study and control of electronic and optic properties and the way that properties are affected by reduced dimensionality, both in space (nanomaterials, nano devices, integrated optic, biosensors, micro and nanosystems of interest in electronic and photonic) as in time (physics of ultra-fast processes, non-linear physics) is growing spectacularly in recent times, making compulsory the training of specialists and researchers in the field.

Temario
It should be emphasized that Material Science and Technology has evolved to the development of new materials and devices with dimensions in the nanometer range that allow manipulation of information in a more fast, efficient and secure way. In recent decades Nanotechnology has been one of the fastest growing technology areas. The main present objective of Nanotechnology is the development of devices able to produce and detect optical and electric signals and to control their properties at the nanoscale. As an example, we have gone in a few years from multifunctional micro-chip lasers (with dimensions in the millimeter range) to semiconductor lasers that operate in a nanocavity. Nanotechnology applications range from transmission and processing of information to development of new devices for detection of contaminants, proteins, viruses, etc. and “in-vivo” treatment of disease. That ability to produce and control signals produced in nanometric devices require a deep and complete understanding of their electronic and optic properties, as well as the interaction mechanisms between electrons and photons.
The main objective of the doctorate program in Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology is the formation and training of researchers and specialists in the study, design and fabrication of new materials with advanced optical and electronic properties by means of the more advanced tools developed recently in the nanotechnology field and with interest for the electronic or photonic industry. This objective is of extreme relevance to meet the scientific challenges of these branches of science in rapid expansion.
