Would you like to learn more about agricultural trade and policy? The AGRIMONITOR: Agricultural Policy in the Caribbean course offered by Emagister and accredited by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is exactly what you need.


This free online course will guide you through agricultural policies in the Latin America and Caribbean regions and teach you about their economic, environmental and social impact. You will learn how to use AGROMONITOR, an IDB database with information on 24 Latin American and Caribbean countries. The course includes IDB case studies, practical activities and suggested lectures to enrich your learning experience. Besides, you will have access to videos created with specialists from various organisations (IDB, FAO and OECD) that will delve further into the topics of interest of this course.


And if you have a course mark of 90 out of 100 you can participate in the "Write an essay with AGRIMONITOR" contest, where you can win a 3-month work contract at the Environment, Rural Development and Disaster Risk Management Division of the IBD.

Sobre el curso: I have gained an excellent skill-set from the course.The new knowledge has complimented and enhanced my academic and workplace well being. I have the confidence that I can evaluate the agricultural policies of Barbados using the PSE platform. This skill set is easier to utilize than the Policy Analysis Matrix since it is not too data hungry, technical or intensive. I am employed as an Extension Officer to the private sector component of the Barbados sugar industry.Each year we hold a research seminar where the results of our research is presented to various stakeholders.Last year I made mention of the impact of the PSE at the workplace seminar and the BAS /CTA seminar series for farmers.In my presentation at the ARVTU seminar in June this year, I analysed the state's incentivization of the sugar industry by use of some PSE categories eg Payments based on current acreages.I am the only analyst within Barbados who is using this platform within the public domain.Certainly I am the only professional who is using this platform within the sugar industry.I am also completing an article which is long overdue examining the impacts of state intervention within the sugar industry. This article will compliment the recent annual evaluation exercises of Barbados agricultural policies by IADB staff.I believe that with full mastery of the PSE platform , I will be able to independently evaluate the agriculture as a single sector.

Sobre el curso: First of all,I would like to point out that my country is Benin instead of Haiti.I selected Haiti because it shares similarities with my country Benin.As a developing country, agriculture is of great importance in Benin but we are suffering from a lack of efficient methodologies used to evaluate public policies, specifically agricultural policies.This is the main purpose that encouraged me to take part of AGRIMONITOR courses on EDX.In Benin the main export crop is cotton and is account for just about 35% of GDP.Every year, the production of this crop received billions of subsidies but the impact of this policy on farmers, regional municipalities are hard to obtain and even so, are not available.So based on my learning of AGRIMOTOR, I decided to carry out a work entitled'Transforming Municipality Bond Market: The case of the Agricultural Municipality of Banikoara'.Financing decentralization has become a major challenge for the municipalities of Benin, and my paper examines the long-term financial sustainability of the agricultural municipality of Banikoara, through a 10-year innovative municipal bond that includes Cotton Producer Transfer(CPT) as the yield.Through this study we want to see how a government agricultural policy could impact the financial resources of cotton farmers.We also want to show that in a context of agricultural municipal bond , the CPT is a fair interest rate of the market.We used the time series model to assess the financial viability of the cashew nuts project implemented through this municipal bond proceeds.The results show that this investment is inefficient over the maturity term as it generates a negative cumulative net cash flow, but if implemented along with an investment on Treasury Bond of the government of Benin, this turns the municipality cash flow positive over the same period of maturity and generates in terms, a cumulative net cash flow 60 times higher than the initial debt.But the course alone is not enough to help me put into pratices all the knowledges I learned.I kindly suggest you to rely me with internship opportunities in your institution, so I can poolish my skills and succesfully carry out the work in the field.
