      The B.S. in Civil Engineering, both in Madrid and in Parks College, begins by providing a solid foundation of coursework in the engineering sciences, including graphics, mechanics of solids, fluid sciences, vibrations and electronics. You will then be able to specialize in such areas as smart structures, smart transportation, structural design and analysis and green engineering.

      Civil engineering involves the conception, planning, design, construction and operation of facilities essential to modern life, ranging from transit systems to offshore structures to space satellites. Future challenges for civil engineers include pollution control, mitigating traffic congestion, providing safe drinking water, addressing the energy needs of an ever-increasing world population, urban redevelopment and community planning. Our civil engineering education prepares you to be a part of this challenging future.

      We introduce solid modeling using state-of-the-art computer software during the first year.
      As students advance, other computer software for structural analysis and fluid flow analysis will be used.
      Our laboratory facilities include a variety of equipment such as universal testing machines, vibration apparatus, a fluid dynamics laboratory, a state-of-the-art soil mechanics laboratory and a concrete laboratory. Theory is complemented by hands-on work in laboratories.
      Students take part in design problem-solving throughout the curriculum, culminating in a two-semester capstone design sequence.
      Students can specialize in the area of environmental science.
      The curriculum of the final year prepares students to take the Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) exam administered by the National Society of Professional Engineers.
      The curriculum is designed in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC of ABET) and the American Society of Civil Engineers.
      Our graduates develop strong written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish.
