      Descripción

CCiL is an interdisciplinary postgraduate program (Master’s and PhD) in Cognitive Science taught jointly by some of Catalonia’s leading universities. It has been designed to overcome the academic barriers between the various disciplines that make up this broad field of study. The program focuses primarily on perception and language acquisition, the syntactic and semantic processing of speech, the relation between semantics and cognition, the logical structure of language and the epistemological and conceptual foundations of its study, the computational analysis of language and the relation between the different disciplines of Cognitive Science.

The Cognitive Science and Language (CCiL) program is a postgraduate interdisciplinary program focused on language and cognition as approached from three different disciplines: Psychology, Linguistics and Philosophy. Its goal is to educate researchers in the field of Language and Cognition Studies with an interdisciplinary orientation, providing the scientific formation and the methodological tools necessary to carry out high level research in a specific subtopic. The program is co-organized by five Catalan universities: Universitat de Barcelona, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Universitat Rovira i Virgili and Universitat de Girona.

      Master and PhD

CCiL has two subprograms: CCiL Master Program and the CCiL PhD Program.

      - The CCiL Master Program is the first, taught period (60 credits) to be completed in one year. It provides an official Master Degree and qualifies for applying to the CCiL PhD program (acceptance to the PhD program depends on an admission process).

(Please note that students that are accepted to the CCiL Master Program but do not have sufficient background, may have to take several background courses (up to 30 credits), which means they may have to complete the Master Program in two years. The background courses are taught in Catalan or Spanish.)

      - The CCiL PhD Program is the second, research period, during which students are expected to carry out the research conducive to the completion of a doctoral dissertation, the submission of which will earn them the PhD degree.

      Language

The official languages of the program are English, Spanish and Catalan. The language of each course is announced at the time of registration. Every branch offers enough courses in English so that it is possible to complete the 60 credits of the master in English; in particular, all mandatory courses, and at least 3 optional courses per branch, are in English. Other program activities (talks, workshops, conferences, …) are mainly in English.

      Quality award

The whole program has been classed as a “first-rate” postgraduate program (‘Programa de Calidad’) by the Catalan and Spanish quality-evaluation agencies since it started in 1989. This qualification facilitates scholarships and other funding for students.
