Temario

In our bilingual degrees, several subjects in each academic year are taught in English and this is complemented by the students spending at least one semester in a foreign university. To be awarded the bilingual qualification at the end of their studies, students must obtain at least 72 credits from subjects taught in English.

The bilingual syllabus is identical to that of the equivalent degree taught in Spanish, the only difference being that some courses are taught in English instead of Spanish. The academic level of the degrees is also the same, based on the premise that English should not pose any additional difficulty for bilingual students.

Students must also take into account that these studies will be subject to the same academic requirements as all the other degrees taught at CEU San Pablo University.

International mobility
It is compulsory for students of the bilingual degrees to study for, at least, one semester, in a foreign language, at one of the foreign universities with which the school of Humanities and Communication Sciences has signed an exchange agreement.

The university's International Relations office will help to make the necessary arrangements for the period abroad through several exchange program, some especially designed for this purpose, such as the one organized with Boston University for students of the degree in Advertising and Public Relations.

International internships
The students also have access to the International Internship Program. This program gives students the opportunity to complete their studies with work experience acquired in companies and institutions in other countries, which enables them to obtain a distinctive, comprehensive and cosmopolitan education of excellence.

Activities for the bilingual groups
Since the main objective of this type of teaching is for students to be able to use this second language in their professional career, a number of activities have been organized to help fulfill this objective. These include:
  • Attending the International Week, a program exclusively designed for bilingual students with the participation of foreign lecturers from Europe and the United States of America.
  • Special courses, e.g. Academic Writing, and lectures in English.
  • Offer of courses in English at the summer university of CEU San Pablo.
  • Cultural events in English.
  • Visits to English-speaking professional centres. Our students can participate in a wide range of activities including visits to mass media institutions, visits to the European Parliament in Brussels, participation in press conferences, short exchange visits to other universities, etc.
  • A range of special programs to obtain qualifications from foreign universities, in addition to the Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) Erasmus, Socrates programs, etc., that the school offers all students, including those in the bilingual degrees.

The teaching staff of the bilingual degrees
CEU San Pablo University is fully aware that the successful training of good professionals greatly depends on the teaching staff of the programs.
Lecturers of the bilingual degrees have passed a rigorous selection process before joining the teaching staff at the university. They are all vocational teachers, as well as researchers, renowned professionals, who are highly qualified to teach their subject in English.

Specific bilingual programs & Boston Program
One of the requirements to obtain a bilingual qualification is for students to have studied for at least one semester of the last two years of their degree at a foreign university.

This requirement can be fulfilled by following one of the exchange programs offered by the school.

Specific programs are also being established such as the one with Boston University for the degree in Advertising and Public Relations. In this program, students receive one week's tuition in each academic year in Spain by teachers from Boston University and have the opportunity to study for one semester at this prestigious university.

The students who complete this training receive the International Business Certificate issued by Boston University.

In the near future, similar programs will be set up with other universities from the United States and Europe so we can, also offer this opportunity to students of Journalism and Media Studies.

Admission procedure for the bilingual program
The admission procedure for the bilingual program is the same as that followed by all the students of the School of Humanities and Communication Sciences (a Spanish language test, an essay in Spanish, an English language test on current issues and a personal interview) except for the English test, which is pitched at a higher level for students of this program. Moreover, the interview is carried out in English with a lecturer from the School of Humanities and Communication Sciences.

These tests will ensure that students are sufficiently motivated and interested in their future studies. They are also designed to assess whether the students have a high enough level of English to be able to follow and participate satisfactorily in classes taught in this language. Once these criteria have been fulfilled and the admission has been accepted by the Dean of the school, the rest of the procedure is the same as for any student at the university.

Grants and scholarships
Students opting for the bilingual degrees may be eligible for two kinds of grants or scholarships. They can apply for the Bilingual Talent Scholarship that the university offers each year to students starting a bilingual degree. These scholarships are available to students who register in degrees of Journalism, Media Studies and Advertising and Public Relations who have obtained a minimum average grave of 8 in their higher secondary education qualification (bachillerato). The scholarship is automatically renewed each year provided that the student maintains at least an average qualification of 7, equivalent to notable in the Spanish university system. This scholarship covers the entire university education fees.

Students participating in the program with Boston University are eligible for the university mobility grants that are awarded when students go to study in Boston. These grants depend on the students' academic records and their results in the modules taught by teachers from Boston University. The grants awarded can amount to 50 %.
