Temario

DNV (Det Norske Veritas) is an independent foundation with the purpose of safeguarding life, property, and the environment. Our history goes back to 1864, when the foundation was established in Norway to inspect and evaluate the technical condition of Norwegian merchant vessels.

ince then, our core competence has been to identify, assess, and advise on how to manage risk. Whether we classify a ship, certify an automotive company’s management system, or advise on how to best maintain an aging oil platform, our focus is to safely and responsibly improve business performance.

Managing risk

As a leading international provider of services for managing risk, the point of managing risk is not necessarily to eliminate risk, but to have an overview of the most critical risks and manage them professionally. DNV’s technology understanding blended with competency within risk management has been used to assess, evaluate and manage the risks involved in numerous high-profile projects around the world.

An international partner

While headquartered in Oslo, Norway, DNV has worked internationally since 1867 and has established approximately 300 offices in 100 countries. As a knowledge-based company, our prime assets are the creativity, knowledge, and expertise of our 9,000 employees from more then 85 different nations.

While many of our services, such as management system certification and corporate responsibility, can be applied successfully in any industry, our main focus industries are:

  • Maritime
  • Oil, gas and energy
  • Food and beverage
  • Health care

Research and innovation

One of the most important competitive advantages of DNV is our investment in research and innovation that will safeguard life, property and the environment. Since 1954 DNV has had a dedicated research department that has enhanced and developed services, rules and industry standards in multiple fields. Many of the technology solutions developed by DNV have been so precise that they have helped define internationally recognized standards. At present, the most important research programmes in DNV are:

  • Arctic
  • Biorisk management
  • Future energy solutions
  • Information processes and technology
  • Maritime transport
  • Multifunctional materials and surfaces

IT risk management and software products

Information technology is now an integral part of business. DNV offers not only methods for managing the risk of operating complex IT systems, but has also developed specialised software systems for design, strength assessment, risk analysis, asset life cycle management and knowledge based engineering.

Wherever we are, and whatever we do – 9,000 DNV colleagues take pride in working for a knowledge based organisation with a broad range, a depth of competence, and with the purpose of safeguarding life, property and the environment.

Trainee

DNV offers both international and local trainee programmes within technical and management fields.

Career development in DNV

DNV is a large, global organisation with many opportunities for you to develop as a person and as a professional within your field of interest.

Management Trainee Programme

Join our challenging and comprehensive trainee programme for young business graduates. Our two year trainee programme will give you the chance to work in different countries and experience diverse cultures and job assignments. After the trainee period is completed you will be offered a relevant job in one of the units within DNV.

The purpose of the management trainee programme is to attract highly qualified young business graduates with development potential to meet our long-term need for qualified employees.

The Goal for you, as a trainee, is to build competence within the areas of Business Control, General Accounting, Systems & Processes and Human Resources Management. In addition a programme like this offers a unique opportunity for each trainee to gain comprehensive understanding of the critical challenges in DNV from different perspectives in the company.

This is an on–the–job training programme and we seek to individually design each programme based on each trainee’s qualifications and desires. The programme runs up to 24 months and consists in most cases of three separate rotations. During the first month in the company the trainees will receive general training and spend approximately two weeks completing an induction programme together with all trainees in DNV Norway. The trainees will be expected to complete the DNV Induction programme in line with the mandatory requirement placed upon all new DNV employees.

Following this first introductory period the trainees will complete three 8 month rotations at different levels in the organisation and to a certain extent at different locations of which one will be abroad.

The objective is to give each trainee the opportunity to complete one of these periods at the corporate level of the organisation, one period at the Business Area level in one of DNV’s four Business Areas and another period in a more operative unit outside the trainee’s home country.

Given the nature of DNV’s
business and how the company is structured it is critical to constantly recruit qualified individuals with a strong desire for an international career within the company. This programme is part of DNV’s overall recruitment policy and is meant to fill key administrative and financial positions in the company world-wide. Consequently it is of great importance that successful candidates are interested in living and working abroad for three years or more as part of their career in DNV.

Management trainees
in DNV are expected to play an active part in monitoring his/her own progress and performance throughout the duration of the programme. Regular communication between the trainee, relevant line manager and programme coordinator will take place to allow reviews of the progress being made. This is normally done at the end of each training block.
