Diseño Gráfico

Our top-up degree in Graphic Design has been specifically created to provide the next academic stage to students who already hold a relevant Higher National Diploma, Foundation Degree or Associate Degree.

For full-time students the course is one year in duration (2 years part-time) and offers opportunities for developing both creative and technical graphic design skills.

Graphic Design is the use of ideas, words and images to create visual communication across a range of media. In so doing it responds to and generates a range of visual and cultural stimuli.

You will be taught by practicing graphic designers with the emphasis very much on developing and refining your portfolio and professionalism.

Live studio projects will be used when appropriate and this will lead to rewarding employment in the design industry or postgraduate study. It is an intensive but enjoyable course that will ensure that you can compete in the demanding world of commercial graphic design.

Elective opportunities allows you to choose modules in such areas as web design, negotiated digital media, illustration or three dimensional design.

Course Content

• Dissertation/Design Research Project on a contextual topic relevant to your studio work.
• Final Major Project - negotiated large project forming the backbone of you professional portfolio.
• Design Studio Practice - working in teams and individually to simulate the studio environment and working methods.
• Graphic Design - corporate identity, packaging, environmental graphics, web design including related topics such as copywriting, art direction, and print/production processes.

Teaching and Assessment

Teaching is almost entirely practical and studio based, supported by lectures and seminars both in group and one to one staff student contact.

Assessment is almost totally on a continuous basis.
