PREPARATION Aim: Why are you giving this presentation? To inform, entertain, persuade, sell? What is your MAIN POINT? THE TAKE HOME MESSAGE Audience: Who are you talking to? What is their background Knowledge? Their language level? What do they expect? How many people? Venue & facilities: Where are you making the presentation? What s the room like?, The seating?, The lighting?, The sound? Is there a board, projector, loud speaker, board pens, etc? Time & length: What time of day? How long do you have? Methodology: How are you going to present? Formally? Humorously? Interactively? With props or visuals? Content: What are you going to talk about? Brainstorm, draft How are you going to structure it? What language are you going to use? Simple, signposted, check pron & spelling. Visuals: What visual medium is best for your presentation? Board, Chart, realia, handouts, Powerpoint or Keynote, etc. Delivery: Think about your: -body language -Languaje; repetition, emphasis -Voice; volume, speed, pitch Talk-don t read NOW PRACTICE AND YOU WILL BE READY TO PRESENT 1. PREPARING YOUR ORAL PRESENTATION -Brainstorm your topic and write a rough outline. -Organise your material and write a draft- think about the lenght of time you have to talk. -Summarise your draft into points to write on overheads and/or cards. -Plan and prepare your visual aids. -Rehearse your presentation and get its length right. 2.
